The Toccoa Falls College Study Abroad Italy program began May 23 and ended June 5. Dr. Brian Shelton who is vice president for Academic Affairs accompanied the group. They visited places like the prison where the apostle Peter and later the apostle Paul were imprisoned. They also toured the catacombs where early Christians often met to pray and worship. These areas are preserved as reminders of the suffering of the early church.
TFC students learned about the legacies of Francis of Assisi and Savonarolla, the ancient Roman sites that symbolize cultural conflict with Christianity, the theological art of the Renaissance, the influence of Aquinas and Dante, and much more as they traveled through Rome, which is a magnificent city that is full of church history. The students also visited with alumni Jason and Stephanie Cooper (2002), who are serving in Rome with the Baptist International Mission Board (IMB).
