Assistant Professor of Voice
David Alan Jones, Baritone, is Assistant Professor of Voice at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia, where he has taught since 1993. He received his Master of Music degree from UGA and the Master of Church Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Jones has been a Minister of Music in a number of churches in both Texas and Georgia. He has appeared with the Atlanta Opera and the Southeastern Savoyards Light Opera Company, Toccoa Symphony, the University of Georgia Symphony and appears in oratorio productions such as Handel’s Messiah, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
He was honored to be chosen as an intern in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Internship Program at Florida State University. He sang the role of the Elder in James Oliverio’s world premier of Star Child, The Operaand sang with the Georgia Sinfonia in the premier of the Vocal Suite A Thousand Lifetimes by James Oliverio in Atlanta. He appeared in the University of Georgia production of Carmen of which the Athens Banner-Herald declared, “especially strong was the strutting Escamillo sung by David Jones. Mr. Jones appeared with the University of Georgia Orchestra in their “Best Of Broadway” program singing, If I Were A Rich Man and also sang in an Opera Gala for the Walton county Music Guild. He sang the role of Jesus inThe Passion According To Saint John and the role of Kecal in The Bartered Bride. Mr. Jones sang in an informal concert at Richard Millers Institute of Vocal Performance Pedagogy in Oberlin, Ohio. Mr. Jones presented a concert of “Hymns, Psalms and Spirituals” at Toccoa Falls College. He performed the role of Solomon in Handel’s Oratorio Solomon with the Albany (GA) Symphony. Mr. Jones sang Bach’s Ich habe genung (vocal solo cantata no. 82) with the Toccoa Falls String Orchestra. Mr. Jones performed the bass arias from the St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach with the UGA chamber orchestra, University Chorus and Collegium Musicum at UGA Hodgson Hall and at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Conyers, Georgia and sang bass in the Bruckner Te Deum done by Piedmont College Chorale and Orchestra. Mr. Jones performed in “A Grand Evening of Music” at the Schaefer Center in Toccoa.
Mr. Jones has taught his seminar “Mastering Singing” at the Institute of Sacred Music” in Moscow, Russia and in Atlanta at the Georgia Baptist Church Music Conference. He does “vocal checkups” and seminars for music ministers around the state of Georgia.
