Toccoa Falls College professor and alumnus Jason Mehl has accepted the position of Athletic Director. He will also be the men’s head basketball coach. While his official start date is not until August 1, he has already been working behind the scenes planning for the upcoming school year.
After accepting this appointment, Coach Mehl said, “It’s a great time to be at Toccoa Falls College. There is a wealth of skill and energy among the administration of the college—including our new president Dr. Bob Myers—who sees new and great things in the near future for TFC.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to participate in helping this college reach its institutional potential by working with our coaches and student/athletes. I’ll work to see that our teams reach their full athletic potential while our individual athletes receive an experience that enhances their education and changes their lives for the better.”
In a recent statement Vice President for Student Development Lee Yowell said, “Please join me in welcoming Coach Mehl as he leads this important area of the college. TFC’s athletic program has a proud history and a very bright future.”
Last year the Eagle baseball team won its third NCCAA World Championship in four years. All the TFC teams have excelled in recent years. Ladies and Men’s soccer teams report to the college on August 14 to begin training for the 2012 season.
Jason and his wife Louise have two children. They moved to Toccoa in the fall of 2009 after serving on the mission field in Uganda where Jason lived for five and a half years. During that time, he taught freshman writing, literature and creative writing; coached the UCU men’s and Women’s basketball teams for four seasons and won two East Africa University Game championships. He also coached the Uganda National Team in three international tournaments and served as an executive member of the Uganda Basketball Federation along with working as the UCU Athletic Director.
