Scripture for the Day: 2 Timothy 2
A man is in his final hours with his family by his side. They are watching him suffer knowing that soon he will be leaving this world. It’s a terribly awful feeling. There’s no turning back; his time has come. The only hope you can find in these dreadful hours is knowing that soon he will be at peace, but if only there was another way, if only he didn’t have to suffer…
This scene was very real to me just a few weeks ago as I waited by my grandfather’s side. In those hours there was sorrow and pain, yet joy and peace as he sighed his last breath. This photo is of my husband’s hand holding my grandfather’s hand during his last hours.
I can better understand what might have been going on in the disciples’ minds as they heard Christ’s words as they gathered for the last time before his death as described in John chapter fourteen. Waiting and knowing what was to come…and yet not quite fully understanding it. If only there was another way. If only he didn’t have to suffer…I cannot imagine (nor do I want to) what it would be like to stand by His side as He endured tremendous pain and suffering in His final hours. What must it have been like as they watched Jesus sigh His last breathe?! It was finished. And to know He did that for us, for me…So that we could know and live forever with His father. Thank you Jesus!
So when the whole world turns against me
And I’m all by myself
And I can’t hear You answer my cries for help
I’ll remember the suffering that Your love put You through
And I will walk through the darkness
If You want me to (Ginny Owens If You Want Me To)

Lord, we are so thankful that you give us hope in some very dark hours. You are the only one who can give us that hope. Thank you for being willing to suffer for us. Please help us remember that you will be with us as we suffer.
