Scripture for the Day: Ephesians 4
The Old Testament sacrificial system was gruesome. Imagine daily seeing animals that were being taken to their death, maybe even hearing their cries. Imagine the mess and the stench of the process of sacrifice. The sounds, the sights, the smells DAILY reminded people of their imperfection and their need to make restitution for wrong doing. And one sacrifice was not enough! Instead every day people woke up having to repeat the process of sacrifice to have their guilt appeased, again and again. Leviticus 17:11 reminds us, For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life. Hebrews 9:22 states clearly ….. without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Then enters Resurrection Day! Set the animals free! Wash up the altars and use them for bird baths! Let pleasant fragrances invade the area with no competition. Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb has shed perfect blood – ONCE AND FOR ALL! The perfect sacrifice, giving complete forgiveness, has been accepted. Christ conquered death and proved to be the only acceptable sacrifice by his resurrection. May we never forget to celebrate (and not just once a year) this glorious freedom.

We join with Christians throughout the ages to thank you for your finished work on the cross. Thank you for not living for yourself when you were here on earth, but living for us; for being compelled to the cross and doing your Father’s will in order to bring us back to Him. Thank you for being our final Sacrificial Lamb. May our lives reflect our gratitude!
