Services for Commencement at Toccoa Falls College is scheduled for Saturday, December 10, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Chapel and Performing Arts Center with Baccalaureate being held on Friday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Grace Chapel and Performing Arts Center.
The speaker for this year’s Baccalaureate service is Dr. Jeffrey S. Gangel, director of Spiritual Formation for Toccoa Falls College. Dr. Gangel received his B.A. in Church Ministries from Miami Christian College, his M.A. in Theology and Ph.D. in Pastoral Ministry and Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary.
He was the assistant pastor of Alliance Bible Church in Dallas, Texas, for three years, then became the assistant pastor of Bethel Independent Presbyterian Church for eight years, and then pastored Campus Community Church of Toccoa Falls College from 1995 until 2009. When he came to TFC, he also assumed the position of director of Spiritual Formation, where he continues to serve.
Immediately following the Baccalaureate service, Dr. Barbara Bellefeuille, provost, will host a reception for graduates and their families in the Parkerson Student Center.
Commencement will be held on Saturday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Chapel. The speaker is Dr. Paul D. Kooistra. He is the coordinator of Mission to the World of the Presbyterian Church in America.
Dr. Kooistra received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, his M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama. He has served as the assistant pastor of Pinelands Presbyterian Church in Miami, Florida from 1967-1969, and then as associate pastor of Seminole Presbyterian Church in Tampa, Florida from 1969-1973, where he assumed the role of principal of Seminole Presbyterian Day School during the 1972-73 academic year.
In 1973 Dr. Kooistra assumed the position of assistant professor of Christian Education at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1975 he became associate professor of Christian Education and Homiletics at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) in Clinton, Mississippi, until 1983 when he was named professor of Practical Theology. In 1985 he accepted the presidency of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, where he also taught Practical Theology. He served the seminary until 1994 when he assumed the position of coordinator of Mission to the World in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). In 2008 Dr. Kooistra was elected as moderator of the thirty-sixth General Assembly.
