The TFC volleyball team hosted the North/South Shootout on September 9 and 10 and won two out of four games. They are now 4-5 on the season. TFC won the first game of the match 25-9, but lost two of the remaining four games and lost the match, 3-2. Later in the day, they played defending conference champion Clearwater Christian College and lost 3-0. The next day the Lady Eagles turned things around and won two matches. The first was a tight five-game match against Trinity College of Florida in which they traded close games until winning the final game 16-14. The second match was a 3-0 defeat of Crown College (TN).

Earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles traveled to Franklin Springs and lost to Emmanuel College 3-1. They lost the first game 25-18, but bounced back and won game two, 25-21.  Emmanuel won the next two games, 25-20 and 25-11.

The Toccoa Falls College men’s soccer team beat LaGrange College 2-0 on September 10 in LaGrange to improve to 4-1on the season. The Eagles continued the trend of scoring early goals when Tyler Timberlake was taken out inside the penalty box in the third minute and TFC was rewarded a penalty kick that was put away by Dave Brown.

Ten minutes later, Eric Bill scored off a pass from Logan Ferrell and the Eagles were up 2-0. Head Coach Rob Worsley was happy with the win and happy that his defense kept the team from having to produce more goals, but he would have liked to see TFC put up another goal or two later in the game. The TFC defense kept LaGrange away from good scoring chances, and goalkeeper Elijah Smith recorded three saves on the day, two of them coming late in the second half.

The TFC women’s soccer team lost to Piedmont College 4-0 on September 7 in Demorest. Head Coach Doug Howell was encouraged by the 4-0 result. “Piedmont is very big and very fast,” he said. “They’re the best team we’ll see all year and our defenders did a good job of pushing them back.” Howell specifically credited the defensive play of Becca Weatherstone, Lauren Howell and Siara Stacey. All four of Piedmont’s goals were on long-range shots. Two were scored on TFC freshman keeper Layne Arnold and two more on another freshman, Rene St. Pierre. Arnold recorded ten saves in the game.

Both men’s and women’s team travel to Florida this weekend for games against Clearwater Christian College and Florida College.

TFC cross-country runners Ben Pigott and Clessie Kendrick won their races at the Johnson University Invitational in Tennessee on September 9. Pigott finished the four-mile course at 24:45, ahead of the remaining 20 runners in the field.  Freshman Sam Burnett finished 3rd in the race, but the rest of the TFC runners didn’t turn in fast enough times for the team to win the meet. Kendrick finished the 5k course at 23:25 and TFC’s Alisha Carlson finished in 2nd place at 24:18. The time of TFC’s runners would have won them the event, but they were only able to field four of the required five runners and Johnson University won the ladies run also. Head Coach Dale Garside was happy with the result of the races. He said the course was the slowest they will see, but several TFC runners were still able to improve their times.
