Chair, World Missions Department; Professor of Cross-Cultural Studies
Dr. Smith returned to his alma mater in 2003 as chair of the World Missions Department. Before returning to Toccoa Falls College, he served over twenty-eight years on the mission field in Latin America. During these years, he has been the Regional Director of Latin America for the C&MA and initiated and developed many missions programs for the C&MA.
During his time at TFC, Dr. Smith has led in the development of the Cross-Cultural Business Administration major and Cross-Cultural Adult Education major for the World Missions Department curriculum. He also initiated the Semester Abroad program for the World Missions Department.
Dr. Smith has written many articles for various magazines and published a book in Spanish on growing a healthy church: La Dinamica de una Iglesia que Crece (1993, CARIBE; second edition in 1997, MORRIS Publishers; 2004, Publicaciones Alianza, Buenos Aires). He has reviewed various books for the mission journal Missiology. He has also had a wide ministry in teaching on missions throughout the Americas. Online teaching is also a part of Dr. Smith’s ministry, having taught such classes for FATELA, Crown College and Liberty University.
My purpose and goal for teaching is to help prepare the next generation of cross-cultural missionaries according to Psalms 71.18: ‘Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.
“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” (John 15:8 NIV).
