The Lady Eagles hosted Georgia Northwestern Tech on Tuesday night. TFC (5-8) split road games over the weekend, and defeated Wesleyan College 62 – 61 but fell to Trinity Baptist 68-64 (OT) on January 10-11. Georgia Northwestern (3-13) had most recently fallen to Southern State CC 66-52 on January 4. Tuesday’s contest was the second time TFC had faced the Lady Bobcats this season. TFC defeated Georgia Northwestern 78-61 in November. On Tuesday night, TFC jumped to an early lead that they would not relinquish for the 66-55 victory.
TFC’s team defense forced GNWT into just 6-38 shooting in the first half, including 1-9 from three point range. Conversely, TFC scored at a 43% clip to take a 35-21 lead into the half. Despite finding its mark more frequently in the second half, the Lady Bobcats were unable to overcome their first half struggles. The Lady Eagles finished 79% from the free throw line to cruise to a 66-55 victory.
Esther Shady grabbed 20 of TFC’s 52 rebounds and scored 11 points from the floor. Kim Crapse led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 14 points. Crapse also recorded 11 rebounds. Katie Calloway scored 6 points and added 10 rebounds. Cassidy Lang contributed 10 points and four steals. GNWT’s Alyssa Nichelson led all scorers with 23 points and added 11 rebounds. Brecia Hall contributed 7 points and 11 reb0unds for the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Eagles will be in action again on Wednesday night as they host Covenant College (JV) at 6:00 PM.
