The men’s basketball team at Toccoa Falls College welcomed the Warren Wilson College Owls to campus on Tuesday night. Warren Wilson College was fresh off a 92-87 defeat of Montreat College while the Eagles most recently fell at Sewanee University, 82-63. In Tuesday’s contest, the Eagles had four players score in double digits but fell to Warren Wilson, 77-67.
TFC held a 27-24 halftime advantage as the Eagles shot 42% in the first half and played aggressive defense to hold the visitors to 9-28 shooting, including just 2-14 from behind the arc.
After the restart, WWC increased its shooting to 8-12 from three point range and 52% overall from the floor. The Eagles hit a respectable 42% in the second half, but TFC was unable to keep pace with the sharp shooting Owls. In the end, WWC used its shooting streak to down the Eagles 77-67.
Josh Barrett led the Eagles with a game high 20 points. Jon Sauls shot 4-9 from three point range and scored 16 points. Derek Westfall scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Devian Clark added 10 points. The Owls were led by Tyler Triplett’s 18 points. Justin Gonyea added 17 points, and Timmy Johnson contributed 16 points. Rashad Ali grabbed 14 boards and scored 13 in a double-double effort.
The Eagles will welcome Bob Jones University on Friday at 7:00 PM. Region opponents Trinity Baptist College and TFC will square off on Saturday at 4:00 PM. Friday and Saturday’s games will both follow the Lady Eagles games against Bob Jones (5:00) and Trinity Baptist (2:00).
