The Toccoa Falls Eagles traveled to Greenville, South Carolina to face Bob Jones University on Tuesday in the team’s second game of the season. On Saturday, TFC was defeated by Emmanuel College. BJU was 1-0 on the young season as they defeated Johnson University (TN) in their opening game. Against Bob Jones, TFC shot 41% from the floor, but the Eagles could not overcome a lack of depth and fell 88-73.
TFC jumped to 10-5 lead in the first minutes of the game with three point buckets from Jon Sauls and Josh Barrett. Bob Jones rallied to take a lead that grew as large as 31-20 with four minutes left in the half. TFC closed the gap to end the half with a 39-31 deficit.
After the restart, Derek Westfall’s lay up four minutes in cut the once double-digit lead to 46-41. Over the next 8 minutes of game play, the Bruins grew their lead to as many as 18. The Eagles again climbed within 9 points with 7:25 remaining but could not close the gap further. The Bruins would convert their free throws down the stretch to finish with a 88-73 victory.
The Eagles will not take the court again until November 14 as they face North Greenville University at Erskine College. The following day, TFC will face Erskine at 7:00 PM before heading to Georgia Southern University on November 16 for their third road game in three days.
