TFC Eagles concluded their regular season on Friday night in chilly West Point, Georgia, as they faced one of their oldest rivals Point University (formerly known as Atlanta Christian College). The Eagles were defeated by Columbia International University 1-0 earlier in the week, where as Point was victorious over Union College 2-1 in their previous match. The Skyhawks of Point University controlled the majority of the match, and TFC dropped its second consecutive match, 1-0.
Point put the TFC defense under pressure for the majority of the opening period. Despite the consistent pressure, the Eagles back line and keeper Elijah Smith denied the Skyhawks the opening goal.
The Eagles would surrender the opening goal of the match less than 10 minutes after the second half restart. Point’s Federico DeAramburu served a cross from the right flank and teammate Matias Domingo netted the game’s only score with a powerful header. Trailing, the Eagles put together a comeback attempt but were denied. The Eagles almost equalized the game less than 15 minutes from end time. Point’s keeper parried Josh Gailer’s initial shot and Noah Smith’s rebound was denied by the crossbar.
In the second half, TFC was out shot by Point 6-4 but 18-5 in the game. Keeper Elijah Smith saved 10 shots on the night. The Eagles end their regular season with a 4-13 record and will face Trinity Baptist College on Friday at 7:00 in the opening round of the south region tournament.
