The Toccoa Falls College Eagles hosted the Rams from Columbia International University on Wednesday night. TFC entered into the match looking to rebound from a 3-1 region loss to Trinity Baptist College on Saturday. CIU was also defeated in their latest match, a 4-0 defeat at Bob Jones University over the weekend. In the final home game for TFC’s seniors, the Eagles played inspired soccer and challenged the CIU back line on several occasions. Even though the Eagles out shot the Rams in the match, the Rams escaped Toccoa with a 1-0 win.

CIU’s Daniel Miele broke the 0-0 deadlock just seven minutes into the match. Miele collected a loose ball on the right flank, cut into the middle and put the ball on his favorite left foot. Miele’s strike curled around the post and froze TFC’s Jon Wright for the lone goal of the match. Trailing 1-0, the Eagles consistently put the Rams on their heels. The Eagles best chance of the night came shortly after falling behind. Midfielder Erik Garrigo’s shot on target was initially saved by CIU’s Luke Brooks, but the rebound landed in front of the net. The loose ball fell just behind the reach of senior Daniel Berry and his lunge sent the ball over the bar.

After halftime, the Eagles continued to challenge the tight Rams defense while CIU looked to spring the counter attack. Neither side was able to finish chances in the second half. The match came to an end immediately after senior Mike Howell’s shot narrowly missed the back post for a would-be tying goal.

The Eagles out shot the Rams 14-12 on the night. CIU forced keeper Jon Wright to make 8 saves in the match while CIU’s Brooks was required to make three. The CIU match was the final home game of the season and the final home match for seniors (pictured above, left to right) Lenny Kroneman, Jon Wright, Mike, Howell, Andy Hoeweler, Noah Smith, and Daniel Berry.

TFC will conclude the regular season on Friday as they travel to West Point, Georgia, to face long time rivals Point University.
