The TFC Eagles traveled to nearby Cleveland, Georgia, on October 5 to face the NAIA Truett-McConnell Bears. The Eagles most recently fell to Tennessee Temple University to slip to 4-6 on the year entering into Saturday’s match. The TMC Bears drew Bob Jones University, 1-1, earlier this week and stood 5-4-1 prior to Saturday. In Saturday’s game, the Eagles fell behind immediately after the opening whistle and would be defeated 3-0 at the hands of the Bears.
Less than two minutes after the opening whistle, TMC’s Gavin Duff bounced on an errant back pass intended for the Eagles’ keeper and finished the mistake to give the home side an immediate 1-0 lead. The Eagles would settle into the game shortly after the goal but could not seriously challenge the TMC net. Cody Brown doubled the Truett’s lead 23 minutes from the half as he was the benefactor of a nice combination play and a scramble in the box. The first period ended with the Eagles behind 2-0 despite earning 6 shots compared to Truett’s 13 shots in the first half. TFC held the edge in corners taken in the period, 5-4.
Following the intermission, Truett re-established their dominance and finished off the Eagles with their third goal 12 minutes from the final whistle. In the second half, the Bears out shot the Eagles 10-1 to seal the 3-0 win. TFC keeper Elijah Smith saved 7 of the 23 Truett attempts.
The Eagles (4-7) will look to snap their two game losing streak at Piedmont College on Tuesday, October 8. The local derby is scheduled for a 7:30 PM kickoff. TFC will welcome region rival Clearwater Christian College to Toccoa on Friday, October 11 as part of TFC’s Homecoming weekend. The Homecoming match is set for 7:00 PM, but will follow the women’s match against Johnson University at 5:00.
