The Toccoa Falls Eagles baseball team advanced to the national championship game of the NCCAA World Series with a 4 – 0 win over Dallas Christian College on Thursday. Dallas Christian advanced to play TFC in the third round by defeating Ohio Christian University 4-1 and Florida Christian College 4-0. TFC topped the Dallas Christian Crusaders behind a complete game, three-hitter from starting pitcher Dylan Charles.
Charles took the mound for the Eagles and decidedly answered the challenge. DCC did not get their first hit off Charles until the fourth inning and only totaled three hits in the game. DCC loaded the bases with two hits and a walk in the fifth inning, but were unable to push across any runners. Charles finished the complete game with no runs, three hits, three walk, and six strikeouts to earn his 9th win of the year.
TFC took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and would hold that lead for the majority of the game. Designated hitter opened the second inning with a leadoff double, and Justin Key followed with an infield single. Key’s single advanced Warner to third after a throwing error by DCC. Senior catcher Adam Reynolds drove in Warner with a sacrifice fly to open the scoring. After Josh Ward also reached on a single, Ronnie Stewart drove in Key and Ward with a triple to deep centerfield; his second triple of the World Series. Stewart would also reach base in the 7th and score the Eagles fourth run off a DCC wild pitch.
TFC’s championship game opponent will be decided on Friday. Dallas Christian, with one loss in the double-elimination format, will face the winner of the Clearwater Christian and Florida Christian elimination game. The Clearwater and Florida Christian game will begin at 4:30, and Dallas Christian will face that winner at 7:30 with a rematch against TFC on the line. Because TFC advanced through to the championship game without a loss, the Eagles will need to defeat their opponent just once to claim their third consecutive title.
