Commencement for Toccoa Falls College is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Chapel and Performing Arts Center.
This year’s commencement speaker is Rev. David Pound. Rev. David Pound is the founding pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. The church was founded in 1979 and is still going strong to this day. He is also a contributing author to the book, Overcome: A Survival Guide for Spiritual Leaders, released in 2012.
Rev. David Pound graduated from Bethel University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduating, he continued his education at Bethel Theological Seminary and graduated in 1974 with a Master of Divinity degree. In 2011, Rev. David Pound was selected as the Bethel Seminary Alumnus of the year.
He has been married to his wife, Sher, since 1978 and together, they have three sons. Their youngest son, Jonathan, was a graduate from Toccoa Falls College in 2011. Rev. David Pound enjoys hiking, jogging, and tennis.
The Baccalaureate service will be held Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. The speaker this year is Dr. Emile H. Hawkins, Sr. Dr. Hawkins is an Associate Professor of Leadership and is the Coordinator of Leadership Studies within the School of Business and Legal, Historical and Leadership Studies at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. He holds a B.P.S., (Bachelor of Professional Studies) from Barry University, Miami, FL., M.A. in Theological/ Historical Studies from Oral Roberts University, and a D.S.L. (Doctorate of Strategic Leadership) from Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA. He is passionate about the topic of leadership and more specifically, Servant Leadership.
Dr. Hawkins is a member of the Florida Air National Guard where he serves as the Deputy Wing Chaplain at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He has been a part of the Air National Guard since 2001 and previously served his country in the U.S. Marine Reserves from 1980 to 1986.
Dr. Hawkins and his wife, Lisa have been married since 1982 and are the parents of two married sons, Emile Jr., (Nathalie) and Emmanuel (Alyssa). To their great joy, Dr. and Mrs. Hawkins have now joined the proud grandparents “club.”
