The Athletic Department of Toccoa Falls College honored its 120 student-athletes at the First Annual TFC Athletics Banquet at Toccoa’s X-Factor Grill on May 2.
The banquet was the first of its kind in that all teams were recognized and honored at one time. Athletic Director Jason Mehl switched to this format instead of holding several individual banquets. “It was a great night,” he said. “Our players and coaches work hard in practices and games and in the classroom. The least we can do is get them all together and tell them how much we appreciate them and their work, and throw a party. We especially honored our four-year players, which will hopefully inspire our new student-athletes to continue to keep working hard.”
Recognized at the banquet were those voted to All-Region and All-American teams, varsity letter winners, scholar-athletes, and the top performers from men and women’s basketball, men and women’s soccer, men and women’s cross country, baseball, and volleyball.
Another new element was the introduction of Overall Awards, voted upon by the faculty, staff, and student body of the college. The categories of the Overall Awards were Male and Female Performances of the Year, Male and Female Eagles of the Year, Male and Female Newcomers of the Year, and Fan of the Year. The Eagle of the Year awards were given to a male and female student-athlete who most exemplified the mission of TFC athletics on and off the playing surface.
