TFC defeated the Clearwater Christian College Cougars in game two of the south region tournament on Thursday, 4 – 3. Clearwater had beaten hosts Florida Christian in game one, 5 – 2 and earned the right to advance in the tournament to face the Eagles.
The top seeded Eagles jumped to an early 4 – 0 lead in their half of the first inning, and would hold the lead through out the game. The #3 seeded Cougars attempted to make a comeback and scored three runs on TFC’s starting pitcher Dylan Charles. Reliever Zack Breeden closed the Cougars comeback and earned his first save of the season. Charles was credited with his 8th win of the year.
Clearwater and Florida Christian will meet again Friday in an elimination game. The winner of that elimination game will face TFC at 3:30 on Friday. TFC can claim their second straight region championship with a win in Friday’s game. Saturday’s championship game, if needed, will be played at 1:00. The winner of the south region tournament will be awarded an automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series while the tournament runner up may qualify for an at-large bid to the tournament. The TFC Eagles have won three of the last four World Series (2009, 2011, 2012).
