The Toccoa Falls College baseball team traveled to Georgia College (22 – 9) on April 3. The Eagles (19 – 11) stayed within a run for most of the game against the NCAA Division II school, but were overcome in the end, 5 – 1.
The Georgia College Bobcats struck first in the second inning to take a 1 – 0 lead off TFC’s starting pitcher Justin Key. The Eagles stranded the bases loaded in the fourth, but tied the game 1 – 1 in the fifth inning when Zack Warner singled home Justin Key from second base. The Bobcats immediately answered in the sixth to retake the lead, 2 – 1. TFC fell further behind in the 8th by allowing Georgia College to plate three runs in the inning, two of which were unearned. TFC was unable to answer in the 9th and fell 5 – 1.
Key pitched well for the Eagles but took the loss. Key allowed 9 hits in 7.2 innings, 5 runs allowed, three earned, two walks, and four strikeouts. Offensively, Key was 2 – 4 at the plate with a run scored. Zack Warner was 2 – 4 with a stolen base and the Eagles lone RBI. On the night, the Eagles left 10 runners on base compared to the Bobcats 6 left of base.
