TFC’s baseball team split a two game series at Point University on February 20. The Eagles lost in game one 6 – 5, but took game two 14 – 5.
In the opening game, the Eagles scored two runs in both the first and second innings to jump to a 4 – 0 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles struggled to get the final out and saw their lead erased. Despite the early lead, the Eagles fell 6 -5. Pitcher Dylan Charles took the loss for the Eagles. Offensively, Corey Warner went 2- 3 at the plate with a run batted in, a run scored, and a stolen base.
The Eagles again jumped to an early lead in game two and lead 10 – 0 in the third. Unlike the first game, the Eagles would not allow the Point Skyhawks to make a comeback. The Eagles compiled 17 hits and defeated Point 14 – 5. Brenton Ruark started the game on the mound for the Eagles and threw three innings. Micah Ellington pitched the final four innings and earned the win. Ellington allowed four hits, two earned runs, a walk, and two strike outs and earned his first win of the season. Jordan Couillard led the Eagles at the plate with a 4 – 5 hitting effort. Couillard scored three runs and had an RBI in the win. Freshman Will Patrick also went 4 – 5 and scored three runs and drove in two. Corey Warner continued his hot hitting by going 3 – 5 with two runs scored, two RBI’s, and a stolen base.
TFC will host Bethel College in the season’s first home games on Friday, March 1. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 pm. The following day, TFC will travel to Hiwassee College for a double header that is set to start at 12:00 pm.
