The Toccoa Falls men’s basketball team hosted NCAA division II opponent North Greenville University on February 14. The home team was doomed early by NGU’s hot shooting and were beaten 65 – 106.
From the opening tip, North Greenville looked to push the tempo offensively, and were successful in getting good shots in transition. The Crusaders used their tempo to jump to an early double digit within 8 minutes of the tip off. The Eagles closed the gap to 20 – 29 with ten minutes remaining, but that is as close as the Eagles would get. Despite shooting a respectable 40% from the field in the opening period, the Eagles were topped by the Crusaders’ 60% shooting. In the second half, TFC began to press offensively and saw their field goal percentage drop to 28% in the half, including 0 – 13 from behind the three point line. Unable to close the gap, the Eagles would fall 65 – 106.
TFC’s Josh Barrett led the Eagles with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Derek Westfall added 14 points and 7 board in the loss. NGU’s Chris Dean led all scorers with 27 points and 12 rebounds on 11 – 14 shooting. Jamal Pryor contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Crusaders.
The season’s last home games will be on Saturday, February 16. The Lady Eagles will host Covenant College at 2:00, and the men’s team will host Johnson and Wales University at 4:00.
