TFC baseball traveled to Bryan College on February 4 and Southern Wesleyan for three games on February 8 – 9. Against the two N.A.I.A. teams TFC went 2 – 2, capped by sweeping Saturday’s double header at Southern Wesleyan University. First, the Eagles traveled to Bryan College to make up the previously postponed double header. In the one-game make up, TFC fell 8 – 6. The Eagles finished the week with a three game series at South Wesleyan University. After dropping the opening game 13 – 3, TFC rebounded on Saturday to sweep the double header 7 – 2 and 4 – 1.
In the wins against Southern Wesleyan, TFC got quality pitching from starters Brenton Ruark and Justin Key. In game one of Saturday’s double header, Ruark (1 – 1, 4.50 ERA) earned the win by pitching five innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs. After Ruark allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jacob Martin came on in relief for the final six outs. Game two starter Justin Key played centerfield in the opening game and went 2 – 4 from the plate with an RBI triple, his first home run of the year, and three total RBI’s. 1B Ronnie Stewart went 2 -4 and scored two runs for the Eagles.
Justin Key (1 – 0, 1.29 ERA) got the start from the mound in game two and threw a complete game, 7 innings with 7 strikeouts, five hits, and a single earned run. Offensively, TFC’s designated hitter Zack Warner went 2 – 3 with a double and two RBI’s. Jonah Crenshaw also went 2 – 3 and a run scored for the Eagles.
The Eagles will travel to Truett McConnell College on Tuesday, February 12 before visiting Reinhardt College for a three game series on February 15 – 16.
