The men’s basketball team of TFC welcomed Johnson University on February 9 for a non-conference game and won 76 – 57. The Eagles have won 6 of their last 9 games including a three game win streak.
TFC feed the ball to forward Derek Westfall early and often to build a quick, double-digit lead on Johnson. Additionally in the first half, TFC out shot Johnson 42% – 14% from behind the arc. TFC parlayed Westfall’s inside presence and the team’s accurate shooting into a 44 – 27 half time lead. The Eagles kept the large margin in the second half and pulled away for the 76 – 57 win. On the night, the Eagles shot 83% from the free throw line, and won the turnover battle 18 – 10. “It’s great to get three wins in a row,” Coach Mehl reflected. “I hope we can carry this momentum into a tough last week and then into the conference tournament.”
Individually, Derek Westfall finished with a season high 29 points and 10 rebounds with 14 – 18 from the field. Josh Barrett added 20 points on 4 – 8 three point shooting for the Eagles.
