The volleyball team was defeated at home by Southern Wesleyan University on October 8. TFC was beaten in three sets by Southern Wesleyan. SWU, a NAIA team from Anderson, South Carolina, came into the match having won 9 of their last 12 matches. TFC (11-12) fell 19-25, 11-25, and 13-25.
The Lady Eagles fought hard in the first set and won the first rotation. However, the Lady Eagles could not keep the early lead, and fell behind in the match 0-1. In game one, Bethany Slate and Rachel Morris combined for 10 digs. Slate led the Lady Eagles in the set with five kills. Mary Willis contributed five assists in the set.
The visiting Lady Warriors established their power in sets two and three. The Lady Eagles were unable to combat the size and speed advantage of the Lady Warriors, and fell 11-25 and 13-25 in the respective sets.
For the match, Slate and Morris combined for 25 digs defensively. Slate also led the Lady Eagles attack in the loss, and finished with 11 kills.
The Lady Eagles will travel to LaGrange College on Wednesday for a non-region match, and will return home for a Saturday match against Piedmont International University. The homecoming match against PIU will begin at 2:00 pm.
