The volleyball team has won back to back games as they defeated Truett-McConnell on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles traveled to nearby Cleveland, Georgia, and left with a victory in straight sets; 25-12, 25-13, and 25-14.The victory was TFC’s second this week, and the Lady Eagles have won 6 of their last 7 sets.
The Lady Eagles jumped to a quick 1-0 lead as they capitalized on 10 Truett-McConnell errors. In set one, TFC tallied 11 digs and 10 kills. In the second set, Truett-McConnell placed more kill attempts in bounds, but the Lady Eagles’ defense was up to the task. On their way to a comfortable 2-0 lead, TFC’s defense accounted for 23 digs in the set. Setter Mary Willis was credited with 20 assists in the first two sets. In the third and final set, the Lady Eagles had a match-high 14 kills to go along with their 23 digs. By finishing point opportunities and playing aggressive defense, the Lady Eagles cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win.
TFC’s defense had 57 digs in the victory, and were led by Bethany Slate’s 21 digs. Rachel Morris contributed 14, Courtney Bechtold and Rachel Morris added 10 and 8 digs, respectively. In the attack, Morris led the Lady Eagles with 29 assists. Slate also tallied 19 kills, Bechtold added 8, and Britney Eitutis killed 7 chances.
The Lady Eagles will have two home games next week. On Monday, October 8, Southern Wesleyan visits TFC at 7:00. The following day, Point University (formerly called Atlanta Christian College) will face the Lady Eagles at 6:30.
