TFC Lady Eagles hosted Tennessee Temple University in volleyball on Monday. The home side was victorious in four sets, winning 25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 25-22.
Monday’s match was the Lady Eagles’ fourth in 6 days; however, the Lady Eagles showed no fatigue. They continued to play hard throughout the match, especially on the defensive side of the ball. In the first set the Lady Eagles record 21 team digs and 11 team kills, and took the first set 25-18. Angela Tran and Bethany Slate combined for 12 digs in the first set. The Lady Eagles doubled their advantage in the second set and increased their lead to 2-0. In sets one and two, Mary Willis had 21 combined assists, and the Lady Eagles attack buried 21 team kills. Needing just one more set to win the match, TFC would find the winner in the fourth set. After a tough third set loss, the Lady Eagles rebounded in the fourth to take the match, 3-1. In the fourth and final set, TFC’s Courtney Bechtold served four aces to help the Lady Eagles close out the match and earn a much needed win.
On the night, the Lady Eagles combined for a 72 digs. Slate led the way with 30 digs and Rachel Morris contributed with an additional 20 digs. Slate also led TFC on the attack with 30 kills. Mary Willis finished the match with 38 assists for the winning side. After Monday’s 30/30 performance, Slate leads the nation in kills and is ranked second in number of digs.
The Lady Eagles (9-11) will travel on Wednesday, October 3, to nearby Truett-McConnell in Cleveland, Georgia, for a 7:00 pm match. The next home matches will be played on October 8and 9 when Southern Wesleyan then Point University come to TFC.
