TFC’s volleyball team welcomed Catawba Valley Community College to Lois Delaney Gym for a match on Thursday, September 27. The Lady Eagles fought hard against the undefeated junior college, but fell in four games; 19-25, 15-25, 25-22, and 15-25.
The Lady Eagles’ picked up where they left off defensively, and forced the attack to execute in spite of the Lady Eagles swarming defense. Despite dropping the first set 19-25, the Lady Eagles were able to keep the match competitive by totaling 20 digs. The strong defensive effort did not lead to any wins in games one and two, but Lady Eagles rebounded in the third set and won 25-22. Facing defeat, Lady Eagles Bethany Slate, Courtney Bechtold, and Britney Eitutius combined for 10 kills in the set, and Rachel Morris lead the team defensively with nearly half of the team’s digs in the set. The Lady Eagles were unable to send enough kills to the floor in game four, and fell to the visiting Lady Buccaneers in the fourth and final set. For the match, the Lady Eagles totaled 65 digs and 41 kills. Mary Willis had 30 set assists in the attack.
The volleyball team will continue their loaded schedule this Saturday in a tri-match against Ohio Christian and hosts Johnson University. The Lady Eagles return home on Monday, October 1 to face Tennessee Temple at 6:30 pm.
