The goal of the Study Lab is to provide a
variety of academic and support services for student achievement
and adjustment in college. Tutoring services are available and
free of charge to currently enrolled students requesting academic
assistance. Tutoring involves one-on-one assistance from qualified
students who have been approved by the director and the faculty in
a given subject area. Tutoring is available for most subjects
offered at Toccoa Falls College.

The tutors are students currently enrolled at Toccoa Falls
College who have been carefully selected on the basis of their
academic performance and their commitment to share their
knowledge with others.

| Is tutoring available for all courses? |
Tutoring is available for most courses. If a tutor is not
able to assist you in a particular course, that tutor will refer
you to someone else or the tutor supervisor. In addition, tutors
can assist students with study skills, time management
techniques, and other helpful resources for all subjects.

No, tutoring is a walk-in lab service.

No, tutoring is free for all enrolled students.

| How do students become tutors? |
Tutors at Toccoa Falls College are paid
positions and students apply at the end of the fall or spring
semester for the following academic semester at the Center for
Academic Success. Tutors must at least be a sophomore
and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, good writing skills
and content knowledge in a particular area, as well as a
commitment to helping others.

Why are tutoring programs effective? |
Tutoring programs can be structured so
that both tutors and students benefit. According to the
research, peer relationships contribute to social and
cognitive development and socialization. Learning,
friendship, and social growth are often positive outcomes.
Some specific benefits of tutoring programs include:
