Computer and Internet Services
Internet and Email
The TFC Information Technology department maintains the campus computer network systems, email and internet for all faculty, staff and students. Each student will be assigned a TFC email account. All students residing in campus housing have free access to the campus network and the internet. Wireless internet access is available in the library.
Computer Labs
There are two computer labs located on campus for student use. The main lab is located on the first floor of Earl Hall below the Admissions office. A second lab is located on the second floor of Seby Jones Library.
Services to Students
The IT department will assist on-campus students with connecting personal computers to the network and will resolve problems associated with computer lab accounts and TFC email. Our policy prohibits us from performing repairs, upgrades, installing hardware or software on student owned computers.
Student Computers
A desktop or laptop computer, generally not more than 3 or 4 years old, will be adequate for most word processing tasks, email and connecting to the internet. We recommend Windows XP as the computer’s operating system or Mac OS 9.0 (or better) for Apple computers. For students living on campus a 10/100 network (Ethernet) adaptor must be installed or built in to the computer to connect to the TFC network and the internet. Ethernet cables are available for purchase from the campus book store.
Anti-Virus Software
All student owned computers connecting to the campus network must have current anti-virus software installed. Each student’s computer will be checked for antivirus software during the initial network connection. If an anti-virus program is not present on the computer or the virus signatures are not up to date, the student will be notified. His/her computer will not be permitted to access the internet until anti-virus software is installed or updated.
More information can be found on the TFC Internet Services site.
Internet Acceptable Use
All students are expected to comply with the Computer and Internet Services Policy On Acceptable Network and Internet Use.
