vehicle reservation & usage policy
The Transportation Department of Toccoa Falls College is not an
independent service, but is a function of the Mechanized Equipment Shop
in the Maintenance Department. The transportation department follows
guidelines and policies established by the college and our motor vehicle
insurance carrier. Complying with these policies and guidelines will
assist the department to fulfill your transportation needs. These
policies apply to the use of all college owned vehicles, which includes
cars, trucks and vans. Due to the insurance requirements, these policies
must be followed. For any questions concerning your transportation
needs, please contact the transportation department at ext. 5309 or you can stop
by the department in the maintenance complex.
- Operating a school vehicle prior to registering with the
Transportation Department is prohibited. Registration requires a valid
driver’s license. At that time, qualified drivers will receive an
Insurance Verification Card.
- Prior to receiving a reserved vehicle, the driver (s) must present
the Verification Card to show that they have complied with registry.
- Any vehicle request that requires the Transportation Department to
provide a driver must be received at least 72 hours in advance. This
gives adequate time to secure a vehicle and driver.
- Any vehicle request for which no driver is required must be
received at least 48 hours in advance.
- The destination, departure time and return time must be provided
at the time of reservation.
- Vehicles will be scheduled in a manner that allows “turn-around”
time between trips. This will ensure that Transportation personnel
have time to service the vehicle prior to the next trip.
- A department code must be given where costs will be charged.
Personal or non-school-related use of Transportation vehicles MAY be
allowed. This depends upon availability, and will involve a charge to
cover all aspects of usage (including the driver, if one is required.)
- To reserve and use a school van, there must be 5 (five) or more
individuals in the group. Exceptions may be made when excessive
luggage or supplies are factors, at the discretion of the
Transportation Supervisor.
- The Transportation Department reserves the right to assign
vehicles according to need and usage.
- Drivers must obey all traffic laws at all times. Failure to obey
the Law of the Land will disqualify a driver from future use.
