Well, this semester is off and
running and it hasn’t even hit me that I’m here yet! Those of us who are
freshmen have been here for almost two weeks and it seems like we’re becoming
more and more like a family everyday. We’ve definitely had a very eventful time
here so far, and I’m going to attempt to recall most of all that has happened.
Move-in
day was unexpectedly smooth. It was an overcast day, but that didn’t seem to
keep anyone’s spirits down. Even though tears were shed by parents and students,
the overall attitude around campus was positive and uplifting. We were all
starting a new chapter in our lives and, at least for me personally, it was
exciting to think about all that this upcoming year has in store for me and the
rest of the campus. After my parents helped me unpack and a long, sweet goodbye,
they drove off. I have officially continued to inch my way into adulthood.
Through all of last week, our
orientation class (called TFC 100) started every morning at 8:00AM. After class
ended everyday, we went to workshops and seminars to learn about ways that we
can get involved at Toccoa Falls College and how the different offices and
departments can help us become the best students possible. While I admit that
not every seminar intrigued me, I did learn a lot of invaluable information. And
of course, throughout the week, we had tons of fun! The Student Government
Association held an afternoon of crazy games and challenges, I went with a group
that went hiking to Contentment Falls, we had an ice cream social, and we had a
couple of nights to just hang out with our orientation groups and meet new
people. On Friday night, to conclude orientation, we had a variety show in which
all of the orientation groups had to come up with an act to present. I’m pretty
sure that everyone in Grace Chapel that night was rolling on the floor in
laughter at one point or another.
Classes
started this week. This is where the fun really begins, it seems. I’ve already
noticed so many differences from high school. Amidst the “syllabus shock,” I was
so impressed to see that my professors had already outlined the whole semester
for us. It really put into perspective the fact that this semester is bound to
fly by and how important it is to really take advantage of the time we have
here. Something else stood out to me during one of my classes. At the beginning
of my first day in my general college math class (which, honestly, I’m a little
scared of because math has always been a struggle for me), my professor prayed
that we would realize that this class has been given to us by God. It made me
understand that, while math and I will never be friends, my Heavenly Father
still created it and I can honor Him by trying my hardest in that class.
For all who are reading this,
I pray that God will use my insights into life as a freshman here at Toccoa
Falls College to bless you.
In Him,
Molly
Redditt
