1. Will a Counseling Psychology major prepare me for any type of immediate graduate education?
 

Most assuredly! TFC graduates of the School of Counseling have been accepted into some outstanding national and regional universities including Regent University (formerly CBN University), Trinity International University, Clemson University, The University of Georgia, The University of Florida, Georgia State University, and Liberty University.

2. In light of my personal issues, what kind of counselor will I make?
 

The wounded healer concept is one of many which people are familiar with. An understanding of self and the insights gained through life experiences, enhance the counselor's ability to empathize with others.

3. What job opportunities will I have after graduation?
 

After graduation, a number of graduates from the School of Counseling have found jobs in the mental health/ministry fields including the following:
psychiatric technician
human service technician
division of youth services counselor
case worker for departments of human services
youth minister
substance abuse counselor
crisis counselor
house parents in homes for youth

4. Why study counseling if we have the Bible?
 

The Bible was not written to be a counseling manual. Knowledge of the Bible combined with an understanding of the human personality make better counselors. The School of Counseling challenges students to integrate psychology and theology while retaining a firm grip on evangelical doctrine.

5. Can I work as a high school counselor right after I graduate from TFC with a Bachelors degree in Counseling Psychology?

 

In order to work as a counselor in an elementary, middle, or high school, a masters degree is required.  Certification varies from state to state.  Necessary requirements may be obtained from each state's Department of Education.

6. What is the difference between the counseling major at a public college versus the Counseling Psychology major at Toccoa Falls College?

 

Many state schools offer a psychology major but not a counseling major.  TFC. presents both the secular and Christian perspectives of counseling and psychology.

7. Does TFC help me become a licensed counselor?

 

Licensure can only be obtained through completing a CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) Master's degree program.  TFC gives the undergraduate an excellent foundation for a Master's level counseling program.

8. What experience do your professors have?
  The School of Counseling professors have a wide variety of experience.  Our faculty includes a Counseling Psychologist, two Licensed Professional Counselors, an Adventure-Based Counselor and a Pastoral Counselor with combined total of 98 years of counseling experience and teaching experience in a variety of settings.
