school of counseling

More than ever before, our world needs Christian counselors. The counseling psychology major at Toccoa Falls College combines research-based counseling methods with the timeless Word of God, providing a foundation for helping others with their complex personal issues.

Students in the counseling psychology major develop dynamic practical skills that can be used immediately upon graduation. Biblical and psychological insights are combined to make these students effective in dealing with personal and spiritual problems. Counseling psychology graduates may be employed as mental health professionals, psychiatric hospital workers, substance abuse counselors, or in rehabilitation work or human resources management. The flexibility of the program may also accentuate counseling skills applicable to Christian ministries such as a senior pastor, youth pastor, pastoral counselor, missionary, or evangelist. They are prepared, as well, to pursue graduate work in Counseling.

Majors in counseling psychology may take classes that emphasize personality theory, psychological testing and research. These students plan for graduate work in psychology, counseling, or other areas of mental health.

The School of Counseling also offers three minors. In addition to a counseling skills minor and psychology minor, students may be accepted for a family studies minor which is offered in coordination with the Institute of Family Studies, a division of Focus on the Family.
