Who should consider a major in the School of Bible & Theology? |
| |
Though all students at Toccoa
Falls College take enough Bible & Theology courses to qualify
for a minor, those who desire to prepare specifically for
ministerial vocations will find the additional courses of a major in the School of Bible
&
Theology invaluable preparation. |
|
2. |
For what kinds of ministerial vocations would a major in School of
Bible & Theology help prepare me? |
| |
Our majors provide a foundation for such
vocations as pastor, teacher in a Bible school or college, chaplain in
a hospital or similar institution, chaplain in the armed forces, North American church
planter, evangelist, or staff worker for a parachurch organization. |
|
3. |
What degrees are offered through the School of Bible & Theology? |
| |
We offer a four-year program for Bachelor of
Arts or Bachelor of Science. |
|
4. |
What is the difference between a
B.A. degree and a B.S. degree? |
| |
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires two years
(12 credit hours) of study in a foreign language. In the
School of Bible & Theology this means the biblical languages,
Greek or Hebrew. It is preferred and strongly
recommended that students in our majors complete the
language requirement. |
|
5. |
Can I go directly into the ministry from the School of Bible & Theology
program?
|
| |
While we do recommend further graduate
training, and some ministry vocations require graduate degrees, our pastoral ministries
major is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills that enable them to
enter the pastorate immediately after graduation. |
|
6. |
If I intend to go to seminary before
entering the pastorate, should I take the Pastoral Ministries
Major? |
| |
Not too many years ago, the answer would have
been “no.” However, changes have been instituted by various
seminaries that make the PAM major a viable foundation for a M.
Div. degree. It is vital that the student check with any intended
seminaries to see if they offer separate tracks or course
substitutions for those with a PAM undergraduate degree. Some even
offer advanced standing for such students. One could also concentrate on a
specialized area in seminary (church planting, evangelism, urban
ministry) and thus build upon the foundation already laid in the
undergraduate PAM major.
The Philosophy and Religion major at TFC is also an excellent
pre-seminary program and may be best for some students. The
Biblical Studies major, with a well-chosen minor, is also good.
In any case, one should be aware that almost all seminaries
require two years of biblical languages for incoming students.
Thus, TFC’s B.A. degree is highly recommended. |
