Connecting to the Network in the Dorm
LeTourneau, Fant, Forrest, Valley Court and all Terrace Houses
What you Need
- You need to be a currently enrolled or new student registered with the college
- You need to be living in a room in LeTourneau, Fant, Forrest, Valley Court or any Terrace House
- A PC or MAC with a 10/100 Network Card
- Windows XP or later (or MAC OS X or higher)
- An Ethernet network cable. These can be purchased from the campus book store or other local retailer.
- A 4-Port Ethernet Hub or Switch to connect more than one PC in a room to the network (This only applies to LeTourneau, Fant, and Forrest). Do NOT use CABLE/DSL or wireless Routers to connect to the TFC Network. Hubs and Switches may be purchased at the campus book store or other local retailer.
How to Connect
Set up PC/Mac with network card installed. Put the network cable into the back of the PC and into the network jack on the wall, and then turn on your computer.*
(PC ONLY) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel. When the control panel window opens, click on Network Settings. In the box, highlight the TCP/IP for your Ethernet adapter and click Properties. Make sure that Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked. If it isn’t, check it and then click on OK.
You will then need to re-boot your computer if it asks you to. (add link to visible steps for 9x, 2000, XP)
Open any web browser and try to access http://www.yahoo.com (or any website that does not belong to TFC). You will be prompted to enter your student ID (don’t put in the leading zeros. EX.: 000345678 should be entered as 345678).
You will then be asked for your PIN number. Your PIN number is the last 4 digits of your social security number.
Click FINISH and restart your computer. You have then finished the registration process.
