Women's Basketball
The 2007-2008 basketball season was truly an exciting time for the Lady Eagles. An early trip to Missouri and a clean sweep of three tough teams certainly gave the young team much hope for a successful year.
An overall nine and two record at the Christmas break was the best the Eagles had done in many seasons and their was much optimism that this was the year that they would get to the National tournament.
Then came a stretch of weeks when everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Injuries or illness affected every member of the team and it became a struggle to win.
It has been said that the measure of a champion is the size of it’s heart and this group of young women proved that they had big hearts. They refused to quit and eventually made it to the Regional championship game. Although the score board read 64 to 66 a loss in overtime, this team proved over and over that they truly were winners.
Individual honors were awarded to junior Stephanie Buice, 1st team All Region, Scholar Athlete, and 2nd team All American, to junior Becky Ester, 2nd team All Region and Scholar Athlete, and to junior Dyanna Cannon, 2nd team All Region. Our final record for the year was 18 – 10 which was the best record in the past several years.
We will not lose anyone to graduation but we have lost some key members from last year’s team. We have improved our schedule and will find it tougher to win, but we are determined to make it to the National Tournament this year.
We would like you to come and be a big part of the future success that we expect to experience.
The Lady Eagles are a member of the N.C.C.A.A. division 2 which prohibits the giving of athletic scholarships.
